About Michael Phelps ~ In His Own Words
I have been actively storm chasing since 1987, witnessed more than 200 tornadoes and been in the eye of five major and retired hurricanes. I also had one of the first weather tours in 1996 and 1997 with Windstorm Tours. My extreme weather library contains hundreds of hours of high-quality video, and thousands of photographs. My video clients include all of the major U.S. television news networks, the BBC, NHK in Japan, News magazine programs such as Inside Edition, The Weather Channel and many documentary production companies around the world. I have been an operational meteorologist and on-air talent for local TV and radio, worked for many years at The Weather Channel as a senior meteorologist and severe weather expert for their Radio Department. I was the on-site meteorologist for the PGA golf tour, and even worked one of the largest broadcasts in television broadcast history – the 2004 Summer Olympics opening ceremony in Athens, Greece with nearly 2 billion viewers worldwide. I have a degree in Radio-TV Journalism from Wichita State University and a Broadcast Meteorology certification from Mississippi State University. This vast experience and passion makes me uniquely qualified to bring you the wonders of the atmosphere up close and personal, not only virtually on our live weather stream, but also in person with StormScape Tours.
